I can’t believe another amazing craft chocolate tasting year has past! That means it’s time for the 2nd annual Dark Matters Craft Chocolate Awards.
I have only included bars I have purchased myself. I’m also only including bars that I tried in 2017, so some of these bars might be new creations and some may be part of a maker’s permanent collection.
Full reviews of the winning bars are available on this blog or on my IG account.
I’ve tried several craft chocolate bars made by Original Beans and they have all been great, but their Piura Malingas 75% bar is extra tasty. As soon as I opened this bar I knew it would be special just from the aromas. It is definitely one of the top single-origin bars I’ve had this year. This organic and vegan bar is made with Peruvian Nacional beans from Piura Valley, Peru.
I hope you can get your bean-to-bar loving hands on one of these! I purchased mine at The Chocolate Project in Victoria, B.C.
When it comes to white chocolate things have definitely changed! I’m talking single-origin, and first pressed cacao butter, not adding vanilla, and so on.
WKND Chocolate’s Turmeric of a Goat Thing is an inclusion bar with turmeric, etc, added. However, when I mention what I “taste” in the other bars that is the expression of the cocoa butter, milk, sugar coming through, and not added ingredients.
Re-think what you know about white chocolate and check out my video.
